The trend of attracting foreign investment in Vietnam’s development.

  1. Positive start with Vietnam’s FDI boom

According to statistics from the Ministry of Planning and Investment, foreign direct investment (FDI) into Vietnam has shown positive changes. From January 2018 to April 2023, the total registered FDI reached approximately 180 billion USD. This figure accounts for 40.3% of the total accumulated investment capital attracted over more than 35 years of foreign investment. It even represents over 56% of the total FDI registered in Vietnam over the past 30 years.

Moreover, the quality of foreign investment in Vietnam has improved over the past 5 years. Increasingly, multinational corporations with advanced technology have been investing in Vietnam. When it comes to large-scale investments, it is impossible not to mention the investments of companies such as:

  • Samsung, LG, Pegatron, Foxconn, Luxshare, Goertek, and more.

Looking at the investments made by these “giants” shows that Vietnam is transforming into a technology manufacturing center. Specifically, Samsung’s total investment in Vietnam has reached 20 billion USD. LG is also not far behind with an investment figure of 7.5 billion USD. In addition, Foxconn, Pegatron, Winston, Goertek, Amkor, and others have continuously increased their investments in Vietnam.

With these signs, Vietnam has affirmed itself as a prominent destination for leading technology corporations.

  1. Vietnam aims to attract more investment into Research and Development (R&D) field.

Samsung has inaugurated a $220 million R&D center in Hanoi, Vietnam. This event demonstrates Samsung’s determination to make Vietnam a “strategic R&D hub”. According to experts from Samsung, the direction of the “giant” is to enhance professional capabilities and expand the development field to make this center the number one globally.

Vietnam identifies R&D as an investment channel with a “source of innovation” nature that helps Vietnam increase its value. Therefore, Vietnam has always desired to attract more investment into this field.

  1. The trend of attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) into Vietnam is growing.

Currently, the global trend of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is focusing on the green economy and high technology sectors. Vietnam has stated that “green growth” is the choice for the upcoming general development trend, and this will be an opportunity to keep up with the world’s development trends. Vietnam’s goal is to become a pioneering country in investing in “green growth” in the region.
